An underground oil pipeline developed a leak on Khayaban-e-Sehar, Street 13, in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area. This incident caused crude oil to spill onto the road.
The DHA vigilance team reached the site immediately and closed the road to general traffic, as a precautionary measure.
According to police officials, authorities contacted the Pak-Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO) and informed them of the incident. PARCO has since dispatched a team to the site to assess the leakage.
The incident came days after a case that involved oil theft from a PARCO supply line in Karachi. A man identified as Ashraf was earlier arrested in injured condition following a shootout with police while allegedly stealing oil from PARCO’s line in Bin Qasim’s Wali Town.
Police stated that the arrested man is believed to be the mastermind of a gang involved in repeatedly stealing oil from the company’s supply line in the area.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause. However, efforts to clear the road and repair the pipeline are reportedly underway.
On the other hand, previously, Karachi residents will now have to pay higher water and sewerage charges. The new rates will apply from July 1, 2026.
The Sindh government approved revised water and sewerage charges for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC). An official gazette notification has also been issued about this.
How much have the water and sewerage charges increased?
Under the new tariff, water and sewerage charges have been increased by an average of 7.5 per cent for the financial year 2026-27.
The increase is based on the average Consumer Price Index (CPI). As a result, Karachi residents will pay higher monthly charges for water and sewerage services.
