Karachi residents will now have to pay higher water and sewerage charges. The new rates will apply from July 1, 2026.
The Sindh government has approved revised water and sewerage charges for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC). An official gazette notification has also been issued about this.
How much have the water and sewerage charges increased?
Under the new tariff, water and sewerage charges have been increased by an average of 7.5 per cent for the financial year 2026-27.
The increase is based on the average Consumer Price Index (CPI). As a result, Karachi residents will pay higher monthly charges for water and sewerage services.
What are the charges for residential plots?
The new tariff sets monthly water and sewerage charges for residential plots based on their size.
This means the amount paid by residential users will depend on the area of their plot.
What are charges for shops and businesses?
The revised tariff also includes new monthly charges for shops and other business places.
Business users will pay fixed monthly charges based on the category of their business.
The revised tariff will be effective from July 1, 2026. Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation will collect water and sewerage charges under the new rates during the 2026-27 financial year.
KW&SC is responsible for providing water and sewerage services across Karachi. The latest tariff increases both water and sewerage charges by an average of 7.5 per cent based on the Consumer Price Index.
Karachi faces possible water disruption
Previously, water supply to several areas of Karachi was at risk of being affected after power to the Papri Pumping Station remained suspended for more than 12 hours.
The power supply to the pumping station was cut at around 9:40 AM after a cable was reportedly stolen from the K-Electric system. More than 12 hours later, electricity had still not been restored.
Officials said the outage could affect around 145 million gallons of water and may cause a major disruption to the city’s water supply.
