Her comments came as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, which he said was a huge step toward bringing an end to the conflict, restoring stability and opening up the Strait of Hormuz.

Starmer, in a statement, congratulated America’s President Donald Trump and mediators from Pakistan, Qatar and other nations for playing their part in what he called a “diplomatic breakthrough”.

“Now the focus needs to be placed on implementing the memorandum of understanding, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and finalising the more specific aspects of the nuclear agreement”, he said.

The British prime minister went on to say the United Kingdom will facilitate technical discussions to achieve a “durable and lasting peace”.

Starmer also highlighted the need to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to help alleviate the economic pressures in recent months that are affecting the global community.

He reiterated the UK’s long-held view that Iran should never be allowed to get a nuclear weapon and that the commitments made under the agreement should be “strong, verifiable and enforced.”
