The Washington Times has claimed that a draft of a final peace agreement between the United States and Iran has been prepared to end ongoing tensions and conflicts between the two countries, according to reports today.
The report said that an official announcement of the agreement is expected within the next 24 hours.
According to the report, key American and Iranian negotiators have approved the proposed draft. It has now been sent to the top leadership of both countries for final approval.
The newspaper, talking from sources, said that JD Vance, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, American diplomat Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s adviser Jared Kushner have approved the draft agreement.
The report added that the United States and Iran could soon jointly announce the finalisation of the peace agreement. This is being seen as a major step towards reducing tensions in the Middle East.
The newspaper also highlighted the role of Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. According to it, he played an important role as a mediator between Washington and Tehran and helped move the negotiations forward.
According to the report, Field Marshal Asim Munir remained in close contact with both American and Iranian leadership. Additionally, that he held several meetings to help finalise the draft agreement.
Meanwhile, The New York Times also described Asim Munir’s recent visit to Iran as high level diplomacy. It also said that Pakistan played a key role in the reconciliation process between Iran and the United States.
Reports said that consensus on the draft agreement was reached on Saturday morning. While an official announcement is expected by Sunday afternoon.
If finalised, the agreement could improve relations between the United States and Iran and may also help bring peace and stability to the wider region.
