The United States (US) has announced new restrictions on Iranian airlines that are expected to take effect from September 23.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said all Iranian airlines would face a global shutdown from Wednesday.
He said that airports and companies that continue to provide services to these airlines could face US sanctions.
What will happen?
Under the new measures, companies could face action if they provide Iranian airlines with fuel or landing services. Selling tickets for the airlines could also lead to restrictions.
Bessent said that companies that continue to support Iranian carriers could lose access to the US dollar system.
The US Treasury has already added several Iranian aviation companies to its sanctions list as part of its wider pressure on Iran.
Trump outlines options for Iran
US President Donald Trump has also spoken about his options regarding Iran.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Trump said he is still making a decision about what action to take. He said major developments could take place soon.
Trump said the options include a new agreement with Iran and stronger economic pressure. He also referred to military action against Iran as another option.

The latest statements come as tensions between the United States and Iran remain high.
Both sides have continued to exchange warnings while diplomatic options are also being discussed.

Iran is ready to work towards reducing regional tensions and resolving disputes through diplomacy, but will not compromise on its national sovereignty or the fundamental rights of its people, the Foreign Minister (FM) Abbas Araghchi has said.
Abbas Araghchi made the remarks during talks with Chinese FM Wang Yi in Beijing on 16 September.
The two discussed the situation in the Middle East and efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
The Iranian foreign minister said Tehran did not want the conflict to continue and wanted to return to a diplomatic process.
