Former Pakistan cricket captain and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has declined an invitation to attend the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) auction, according to sources. A franchise had invited the former captain to participate in the auction proceedings; however, Akram turned down the offer.
The APL player auction was held in the United Arab Emirates on November 3, while the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly barred Pakistani players from participating in the tournament.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has been picked by the Kandahar Warriors in the platinum category. The franchise registered him as a British citizen and selected him as its first pick, ahead of experienced Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi.
Amir, who currently resides in England, acquired British citizenship in May this year and registered for the APL player draft using his British passport.
The Afghanistan Premier League is scheduled to take place later this year. However, the participation of Pakistan’s centrally contracted and active national players remains uncertain, as they are unlikely to receive NOCs from the PCB. In another development, Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has also joined the Big Bash League (BBL).
