KARACHI: Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has scheduled a four-day maintenance operation at the old Pipri Pumping Station, which will lead to significant water shortages in various parts of the city.
The shutdown is said to begin on January 10 and conclude on January 13, according to KWSC spokesperson. While the newer Pipri facility will remain fully operational, the temporary closure of the older station will put a strain on the city’s distribution network.
Key areas facing disruptions
Residents of Malir, Shah Faisal Colony and Model Town would be the affected areas, the KWC has asked the residents to prepare themselves for a suspension or reduction in water supply.
Additionally, the Landhi and Sherpao hydrants will be out of service for the duration of the repairs.
Water Corporation officials are urging citizens to store sufficient water ahead of January 10 to minimize inconvenience. Normal supply is expected to resume shortly after the completion of maintenance on January 13.
KE maintenance work
Meanwhile, K-Electric has also started its annual winter maintenance.
KE spokesperson Imran Rana said the work is needed to keep the power system stable. Fourteen grid stations are included in the plan.
KE said electricity will be supplied through alternate lines to reduce inconvenience.
