Authorities on Thursday issued a fresh weather alert for January 23 as rain and snowfall continue to affect large parts of the country, raising fears of road blockages, flash flooding in streams, and travel disruptions, particularly in northern and hilly areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the ongoing weather system is likely to bring widespread rain and heavy snowfall across all provinces and northern regions. In response, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has urged citizens to remain cautious and follow official advisories during the wet spell.
According to the PMD, areas including Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galiyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, Haveli, and Rawalakot are expected to receive moderate to heavy rain and snowfall, which could affect daily life and tourist movement.
In Punjab, intermittent rain and thunderstorms are likely in most districts, including Lahore and Rawalpindi. Islamabad is expected to experience cloudy weather with occasional rain, while heavy rain and isolated hailstorms may occur in some areas, increasing the risk of slippery roads and low visibility.
Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also forecast to receive widespread rain and snowfall across major districts. In Sindh, cold and cloudy weather is expected in most parts of the province, with rain likely in cities such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana.
Special concern has been raised over Murree weather, as heavy rain and snowfall may disrupt traffic and tourist activities. Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has advised tourists and residents to avoid unnecessary travel to Murree and nearby areas and to remain updated on the latest weather situation.

Meanwhile, the NDMA has directed provincial and district administrations to stay on high alert, ensure emergency response teams are ready, and take preventive measures to reduce the impact of the adverse weather conditions.
