Weather today: rain, fog, and snow expected across Pakistan

Web desk: Cold and dry weather is expected to continue across most parts of Pakistan as per the weather reports today.

Light rain and snowfall may occur in isolated northern areas. Moderate to dense fog is likely in the plains of Punjab, upper Sindh, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Especially during the night and early morning hours.

December could turn colder as temperatures fluctuate across the country amid dense fog. and an approaching weather system, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said.

Dense fog disrupts travel in Punjab

Dense fog has severely affected road travel in Punjab, prompting the closure of several motorways.

The Motorway Police announced that the M-2 (Lahore–Kot Momin), M-3 (Faizpur–Darkhana), M-4 (Pindi Bhattian–Faisalabad), M-11 (Lahore–Sialkot), and M-5 (Multan–Sukkur) have been closed due to low visibility.

Authorities advised citizens to travel during daylight hours.

It stated that road conditions are relatively safer between 10 am and 6 pm.

Drivers were urged to use fog lights, avoid unnecessary travel, and contact helpline 130 for assistance.

Rain, snow forecast in KP

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa forecast rain. And snowfall in upper mountainous areas from December 13 to 15.

Districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Shangla are expected to receive rain and snow. While light rain is anticipated in Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Nowshera, and Swabi.

The PDMA warned that snowfall could make roads slippery in tourist destinations like Naran and Kaghan. Increasing the risk of landslides.

Punjab weather today

The PDMA Punjab forecasts rain and light snowfall in the upper and hilly districts between December 14 and 15.

Fog and smog conditions are likely to persist in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, and southern districts, including Jhang, Sahiwal, Layyah, Kot Addu, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Khanpur.

Authorities cautioned that moderate fog and smog may continue from December 12 to 16 and urged residents to follow safety advisories.
