West Indies made a solid start, reaching 49 runs for the loss of one wicket after electing to bat first in the second Test match against Pakistan.
Earlier West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first in the second Test match against Pakistan. The West Indies are currently batting in the ongoing match in Port of Spain, scoring 49 runs for the loss of one wicket.
Abdullah Shafiq, Owais Zafar, Sajid Khan, and Obaid Shah have been included in Pakistan’s playing XI. It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan lost the first match of the series by 90 runs. Despite being Pakistan’s standout bowler in the opening Test, Abbas was left out, with captain Babar Azam citing conditions as the reason for his omission.
While talking, Babar Azam said that he wanted to bat first, but the team will now aim to restrict the West Indies to a low total by bowling effectively in the first innings.
He said the players need to stay united, follow their plans, and have full confidence in their abilities. Babar added that the team believes in itself and is determined to put in a strong performance.
Meanwhile, the West Indies have retained the same playing XI that secured victory in the first Test. Their lineup includes Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Brandon King, Kavem Hodge, Shai Hope (wicketkeeper), Amir Jangoo, Justin Greaves, Roston Chase (captain), Jomel Warrican, Shamar Joseph, Kemar Roach, and Jayden Seales.
West Indies have found themselves in a promising position in Test cricket, ending a long wait for a run of three consecutive matches without defeat. Their recent performances highlight a well-balanced bowling attack, combining the experience and energy of their fast bowlers with the reliability of their established spin options.
While batting remains an area of concern, the West Indies have shown that their bowling strength can make the difference, particularly against teams vulnerable to quality seam bowling. Against Sri Lanka and in the opening Test, they displayed resilience, building pressure patiently when in control and fighting their way back whenever the opposition gained the upper hand.
For the hosts, the key challenge is maintaining consistency after a performance in which they stayed competitive for almost the entire match. Although their batters may not carry the same reputation as their bowlers, they showed determination by grinding through difficult conditions and providing their attack with enough runs to make an impact.
