The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi finals lie ahead with West Indies and South Africa at the centre of a tough cricket competition.
Earlier, West Indies successfully defeated Sri Lanka while South Africa secured a win over India.
South Africa witnessed a powerful performance by Marizanne Kapp. The game on Sunday resulted in an incredible six-wicket victory over India in Manchester.
The South African player secured 2/27 in hopes to reduce India to 158/7. She ended up scoring an 81 with four sixes, boosting the numbers to 161/4 in 19.1 overs.
This win is now expected to get the South Africa team right on track for their World Cup campaign.
India, on the other hand, suffered their first loss of the cricket campaign.
India’s Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma kickstarted the game by batting first. It took them to a solid 23 in the first two overs.
However, they were soon met with a fierce display of dominance from Marizanne Kapp.
In the moments that followed, Shabnim Ismail dismissed the in form of Verma by striking a huge blow. Verma had previously struck a total of four fours and a six for a 31.
India’s powerplay came to a 59/2. Indian batters faced major challenges in converting.
With Harmanpreet Kaur scoring 24 and a 29 by Deepti Sharma, India moved past 150.
The South African team showed great resolve and secured 76 runs and four wickets in the final 10 overs.
West Indies secures win against Sri Lanka
In the West Indies vs Sri Lanka match, West Indies emerged victorious over a five-wicket win.
West Indies were assisted by Hayley Matthews’ second consecutive three-wickets. It helped restrict Sri Lanka to 99.
The cricket team still managed to get past the finish line with a score of 99/5 in 16.1 overs.
This marked their third win of the T20 Women’s World Cup. The West Indies team is stronger than ever to make their way toward the semi-finals.
They are closely following England while placed second in Group B.
Key players like Matthews led the attack against strong Sri Lankan players like Vishmi Gunarathne, Chamari Athapaththu and Samarawickrama.
At the end, Kawya Kavindi was the only one to give the West Indies team a tough time.
Kavisha Dilhari also proved to be a difficult player to get past. She ended up finishing 2/22 to grant Sri Lanka one more chance.
