Women’s T20 WC clash India win toss, opt to bat against Pakistan

India has set Pakistan a target of 171 runs to win in a crucial match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Batting first at Edgbaston, India scored 170 for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted overs.

Smriti Mandhana was the standout performer, scoring 68 runs off 44 balls, while Richa Ghosh contributed an aggressive 34 runs and Harmanpreet Kaur added 36 runs.

For Pakistan, Sadia Iqbal and captain Fatima Sana claimed two wickets each, while Ramin Shamim and Tasmia Rabab took one wicket apiece. India has won the toss and elected to bat against Pakistan in the crucial match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

The thrilling and exciting matches of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 are underway. The biggest contest of the mega event is between Pakistan and India.

This is the first match between these traditional rivals in the ongoing tournament. Both teams are looking to make a winning start and will enter the field determined to win.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to bat first, saying that the pitch looks very good for batting. She added that she has gained a lot of confidence from the last World Cup and is very excited for the match.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana said at the toss that the pitch also looks very good for batting. She added that they would have chosen to bat as well if they had won the toss. She said Pakistan has strong bowlers and will try to restrict India to a low total. She also highlighted the team’s quality spinners and fast bowlers.

It was also noted that, as in the men’s World Cup, there was no handshake between the two sides. The Indian captain did not shake hands with Pakistan captain Fatima Sana.
