The alarming Middle East crisis has also impacted the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup, as players from several teams are still stranded in India. Many players have been compelled to remain in the country despite arrangements for chartered flights.
The teams participating in the T20 Cricket World Cup have not yet been able to leave for their respective countries due to the situation in the Middle East, according to media reports.
West Indies, South African teams still in India
West Indies and South African teams, who are currently in India for the T20 World Cup, are stranded as both teams have already completed their scheduled matches in the tournament.
Despite having a chartered flight arranged, the West Indies team has not been able to leave India. The International Cricket Council (ICC) arranged the chartered flight after consulting with Cricket West Indies.
However, it is reported that air traffic clearance for the chartered flight has not yet been granted. As a result, the West Indies players are frustrated with being stuck in India.
West Indies team all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford said in a statement on social media, ‘I am fed up. I just want to go home now.” Earlier, the team’s coach, Darren Sammy, had also expressed his desire to return home from India.
The South African team is also stranded in India along with the West Indies team. Details regarding the departure of both teams are still awaited.
Meanwhile, according to media reports, a five-match T20 series between South Africa and New Zealand is scheduled to begin on March 15. However, the departure of the remaining South African squad members has not yet been confirmed.
