The Indian cricket team has postponed its scheduled training session due to a lunar eclipse as it prepares for the semi-final clash against England in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
According to Indian media reports, the team management had originally planned to begin practice at 6 pm, in line with its traditional schedule.
An official statement issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had also confirmed that the team would train at Wakanda Stadium from 6 pm to 9 pm.
However, it was later revealed that a lunar eclipse was set to begin at 3:20 pm and last until 6:47 pm. In accordance with Hindu religious beliefs, eclipses are considered inauspicious periods during which important or auspicious activities are typically avoided.
Following consultations between team management and players, it was decided that beginning preparations on a positive note was essential ahead of a crucial match such as a World Cup semi-final. As a result, the training session was postponed by approximately an hour and rescheduled to begin after the eclipse ended.
A source quoted by Indian media said it was deemed better to avoid any activity during the eclipse period, and the revised training session will commence after 6:40 pm.
Reports also suggest that the Indian team has been organising special religious rituals and prayers throughout the tournament. Players have reportedly visited temples in various cities before key matches as part of their spiritual preparations.
India secured its place in the semi-finals after defeating the West Indies in its final Super Eight match. The team will now face England in Thursday’s semi-final, while the first semi-final will see New Zealand take on South Africa.
