Good news has been announced by the country of New Zealand, as it has offered a new work visa for international students.
As per the official authorities of the state, a new six-month work visa has been announced for all eligible graduates who could not get the Post-Study Work Visa after their graduation in the country.
Students seeking to work in New Zealand can start initiating their application for the Short-Term Graduate Work Visa from November 16, 2026.
Under this work visa, all of the international students can work without a job letter and with any recruiting company.
Students eligible for New Zealand work visa
The eligibility criteria for international students who are eligible for the Short-Term Graduate Work Visa are as follows:
· The applicants who have qualified for graduation in New Zealand and meet the Qualifications Framework Level 5,6, and 7.
· The applicant must have completed their course full-time for at least 24 weeks and must not be eligible for the Post-Study Work Visa.
· Qualifications such as English language, bridging, and foundation do not qualify for the offered work visa.
· The applicant must possess at least $5000 New Zealand dollars to support themselves and to meet the health and character requirements.
· The application for the Short-Term Graduate Work Visa must be submitted within three months after the student visa of the applicant expires.
· Students who apply for this visa and are successfully qualified would not be allowed to operate any kind of business.
· The work would be carried out under an employment agreement or an official contract with the recruiting company.
The New Zealand authorities have also made it clear that the work visa will be offered only once and not be extended or renewed whatsoever.
Basically, the government has started this campaign to support those students who could not find a Post-Study Work Visa after their graduation, through which they could be eligible for Permanent Residence (PR) in the country.
The new work visa will provide an additional to all those students, so that they can find employment and get a work visa of their choice for PR.
New Zealand is also expanding eligibility for its Post-Study Work Visa, allowing more international graduates to qualify under revised rules taking effect from November 16.
Under the new rules, graduates who complete an eligible Level 7 Graduate Diploma in New Zealand may qualify for the visa if they already hold a bachelor’s degree from New Zealand or another country.
The Graduate Diploma must be completed full-time in New Zealand for its entire duration. Study credited through cross-crediting or recognition of prior learning will not count towards the required study period.
Eligible graduates can work in New Zealand for up to three years, depending on their qualification.
The changes are aimed at providing more international graduates with opportunities to gain work experience in New Zealand after completing their studies.
