MSC Diletta, one of the world’s largest container ships, has sailed out of Karachi Port for the United Arab Emirates after completing its cargo handling operations.
According to the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), the massive vessel discharged 909 containers and loaded 1,182 containers during its stay at the port.
The ship’s successful operations highlight Karachi Port’s capacity to handle some of the world’s largest container vessels and its growing role in regional maritime trade.
KPT said the Italian-flagged container ship arrived in Pakistan from an Indian port. Measuring 400 metres in length and 67 metres in width, MSC Diletta has a deadweight tonnage of 255,288 tonnes.
Karachi Port officials said the arrival of a vessel of this size reflects the port’s world-class infrastructure and its capability to accommodate some of the largest container ships operating globally.
It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan’s Karachi Port welcomed MSC Loreto, one of the largest container vessels currently operating worldwide, in the first week of July.
The arrival of the nearly 400-metre-long ship, with a capacity of 24,346 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), reflects Karachi Port’s expanding ability to accommodate ultra-large container vessels and its growing importance in international trade.
The vessel, which belongs to the world’s largest class of container ships, arrived as Pakistan continues to enhance port infrastructure and upgrade terminal facilities to support increased trade activity.
The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) said the arrival of MSC Loreto marks another milestone for Karachi Port’s development and demonstrates its capability to safely and efficiently handle some of the world’s biggest cargo ships.
