Pakistan’s young fast bowler Razaullah won millions of fans after dismissing England captain Joe Root in the very first over of his Test debut. Former England captain Nasser Hussain praised the 21-year-old’s impressive spell, saying Pakistan had been waiting for something different in its bowling attack for a long time.
According to Hussain, Razaullah’s spell was marked by pace and aggression, which put even England’s experienced batter Joe Root under pressure. Hussain said Razaullah’s rapid delivery forced Root into making a quick decision, ultimately leading to his dismissal. The young pacer’s impressive debut has raised fresh hopes for Pakistan’s bowling attack.
Former England captain Mike Atherton said the 21-year-old’s performance brought back memories of the glory days of Pakistan cricket. Indian journalist Vikrant Gupta, who has often been critical of the Pakistan team, compared Razaullah’s bowling to that of legendary Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis. Gupta also highlighted the youngster’s ability to swing the ball at speeds exceeding 145 kilometres per hour.
On the other hand, England strengthened their position in the third Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston on Thursday as Harry Brook and Dan Lawrence accelerated the scoring, with the hosts pushing for a series whitewash.
England, who had already taken a 2-0 lead in the three-match series, resumed the second day at 156-4 after Pakistan were bowled out for just 133 in their first innings. Brook and Lawrence continued to build England’s advantage at the crease. Lawrence reached his half-century from only 47 deliveries, striking eight boundaries in an aggressive knock as England maintained a brisk scoring rate on a bright morning in Birmingham.
However, Brook’s innings came to an unexpected end when he was run out for 75. Chasing his 11th Test century, the batter clipped the ball towards mid-wicket and immediately set off for a single. Saim Ayub collected Shan Masood’s throw and quickly removed the bails, catching Brook well short of his ground. The dismissal ended an 86-run partnership with Lawrence and left Brook visibly frustrated as he threw his bat into the air.
