An initial inquiry report into the terrorist attack at a mosque inside Kohat Police Lines has been sent to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Secretary, confirming that 21 people were martyred and 103 others injured.
According to the report submitted by the Kohat District Health Officer, the explosion took place at around 1:20pm during Friday prayers at the mosque located on Hangu Road in the Police Lines area.
The report said the blast was followed by a terrorist attack involving around five to seven attackers.
21 people martyred
The report stated that 21 people were martyred in the incident, including 15 police officers and six civilians.
Among the civilians killed was Dr Israel Khan Orakzai, Chief District Specialist in Paediatrics at Liaquat Memorial Hospital Kohat.
103 injured taken to hospitals
According to the initial report, 103 injured people were taken to hospitals for treatment following the attack.
Of these, 13 were shifted to Liaquat Memorial Hospital, while 90 were taken to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Kohat.
The injured included 73 police personnel and 30 civilians.
34 injured remain hospitalised
The report said 34 injured people have been admitted to hospitals for further treatment.
Five patients underwent laparotomy, a surgical procedure involving an operation on the abdomen. Four of these patients were later shifted to tertiary-care hospitals in Peshawar for further treatment and specialised medical care.
The health authorities said the situation is being closely monitored and all possible medical assistance is being provided to the injured.
The investigation and medical response remain ongoing as authorities continue to assess the situation.
