The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has destroyed 900 kilograms of meat from animals infected with lumpy skin disease.
The meat was seized during an operation at a beef shop in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat area.
A veterinary specialist examined the stock and declared it unfit for human consumption.
He said the supplier had illegally slaughtered animals infected with this disease and prepared their meat for sale in the market.
What’s lumpy skin disease?
Lumpy skin disease is a viral disease that affects cattle and buffalo, but it does not transmit from animals to humans.
There is no direct antiviral treatment for this disease in cattle, as it is a viral infection. Management relies on supportive care, symptom relief, and preventing secondary complications
The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) is a provincial government agency in Punjab, Pakistan, established under the Punjab Food Authority Act 2011 to regulate food safety, hygiene, and quality standards
The authority conducts routine checks and anti-adulteration raids using field teams and rapid testing kits. Issues improvement notices, heavy fines, prohibition orders, and seals premises that fail hygiene or safety laws.
