Web desk: The UK government has announced a major asylum policy change that will halve the initial refugee status period from five years to 30 months.
The British government has made sweeping changes to its asylum laws.
A draft of the changes to the laws was presented to Parliament by UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, which was later published on the UK Home Office’s website.
Under this new policy, the period of temporary asylum will now be only 30 months.
This change will also affect YouTubers supporting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who were using political asylum to continue their activities against the country’s institutions, analysts say.
At the end of this period, the government will fully review the situation of refugees, and if their country of origin is considered safe, they can be sent back to their homeland.
According to the new policy, the period of political asylum has been reduced from five years to just 30 months.
