The International Cricket Council (ICC) has promoted Pakistani umpire Rashid Riaz Waqar from the International Panel to the Emerging Panel, a major career milestone.
Following this promotion, he is set to make his Test cricket umpiring debut for the first time, marking another proud moment for Pakistan’s officiating community.
Rashid Riaz Waqar, 50, will officially begin his Test umpiring career on Sunday. He will serve as an on-field umpire in the one-off Test match between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in Harare.
With this appointment, he will become the 34th Pakistani umpire to officiate in men’s Test cricket, marking an important milestone in his professional career.
Rashid Riaz Waqar was also a first-class cricketer in the past. He played 50 matches during his 12-year first-class career, and as an umpire, he has officiated in 118 men’s and women’s international white-ball matches so far.
He made his international umpiring debut in a T20 International between Pakistan and Australia in Dubai in October 2018.
His inclusion in the ICC Emerging Panel and his appointment to officiate in Test cricket are being seen as recognition of his hard work, experience, and abilities. This achievement will also bring a new identity to Pakistan’s umpiring community.
