The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh nationwide weather forecast, predicting rainfall in several regions while humid conditions are expected to persist in others. In Lahore, early morning rains brought some relief from the heat of the day, with cloudy, muggy conditions prevailing in Karachi and Islamabad.
The PMD noted heavy rains fell across various areas of Lahore in the early morning, of the day while some areas got light rains. The rains helped to improve the weather in the city, bringing some relief with the cool breezes.
It is 66% humid right now in Lahore with a wind velocity of 5 kmph. Enhanced precipitation is forecast to occur in the city within the next 24 hours, with high humidity between 68 and 74% and temperatures ranging between 29C and 37C.
Meanwhile, Karachi is experiencing cloudy skies and humid weather. Light rain or drizzle is forecast to fall at isolated locations across the city, with some strong winds expected at times.
The minimum temperature is likely to be around 28.4°C, with the maximum temperature ranging from 33°C to 35°C in Karachi, while Southwesterly winds will be blowing at 18 km/h with humidity of 75%. The city’s air quality is still good, and particulate matter is less than 100.
In Islamabad, it is expected that hot and humid weather will persist throughout the day. The capital’s early day temperature was 27C with high temperatures of 38C expected later in the morning.
Winds are at 7 km/h and humidity is with reference to higher than 43%, which makes it a higher “feels like” temperature.
The PMD has also predicted thunderstorms and rain in Azad Kashmir and the upper part of KP Province. Gilgit-Baltistan is forecasted to experience partly cloudy with disconnected rainfall.
Pakistan experts pointed out that in the period between the monsoon and September, the weather conditions can be erratic throughout Pakistan. The moist winds from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea meet with cooler air over the northern areas, leading to an increase in rainfall in Lahore, upper KP and Kashmir. However, it is a fact that during a low wind speed, the humidity tends to rise in coastal cities like Karachi and around the city of Islamabad.
Although the weather is wet, the day temperature of Lahore has still been recorded at 37°C, which shows that the humidity has not yet abated. Meanwhile, Karachi has been eulogising its better air quality as it continues to be graced by the presence of regular sea breezes, which keep the air clean. High humidity and temperatures close to 38°C are likely to make it uncomfortable in Islamabad, with perceived temperature readings likely to exceed what is actually being read.
