Maulana Tariq Jamil’s yoga video sparks social media debate

A video featuring prominent Pakistani religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil performing yoga exercises during a meeting with Dr Affan Qaiser has gone viral on social media, prompting mixed reactions from users.

Maulana Tariq Jamil is widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s leading religious figures and is respected across different schools of thought. He is known for his moderate and positive style of communication, although he has also been the subject of public discussion on various occasions due to his personal business brand.

In the recently surfaced video, Maulana Tariq Jamil can be seen performing several yoga poses and demonstrating physical flexibility despite his age and previous health issues. The video quickly attracted attention and sparked a debate across social media platforms.

Following the video’s circulation, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hina Parvez Butt criticised it and described it as inappropriate. Several social media users also questioned why such a private activity had been shared publicly.

However, many users defended Maulana Tariq Jamil, arguing that yoga and physical exercise are ways to maintain health and fitness and should not be considered controversial. Some said the activity should be viewed simply as a form of exercise, while others maintained that everyone has the right to choose the physical activities they prefer.

Critics, however, continued to raise objections. Some users said they found the video inappropriate and argued that, as a religious figure, Maulana Tariq Jamil should avoid publicly promoting such activities.

Several users also criticised the camera angle used in the video, suggesting that it should have been filmed from a different perspective.

The video has since generated a wider discussion online, with users divided over whether it should be viewed as a personal fitness activity or judged in light of Maulana Tariq Jamil’s public and religious standing.
