Floods have blocked the key Karakoram Highway, disconnecting the main road leading to the infamous Babusar Top.
According to the National Highway Authority (NHA) spokesperson, the road that leads to the Babusar Top is completely closed because of high-level flooding at zero point
The spokesperson informed tourists and commuters that they need to use alternative route like Karakoram Highway instead of Babusar Top until further notice.
Roads have been closed due to an overturned truck of goods at the Karakoram Highway near Shang Nala (Gunner Farm), the spokesperson said that roads are closed for all types of traffic.
According to the NHA, traffic has been immediately stopped at the Gunner Farm check post, and the entry of additional vehicles has been suspended.
The spokespersons said that district administration and rescue teams are available at the site with heavy machinery. They are doing their work rapidly to remove the overturned truck and open the road as soon as possible.
The NHA advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel until the roads are fully open and to follow all instructions of district administration.
Earlier, the Murree Police had declared a travel advisory after a large number of tourists made trips to Murree during the summer holidays.
Due to this, the driving conditions have been hampered by the monsoon rainfall and thick fog in the area.
The reason for the advisory is the nice weather and the current vacation season, which has led to a huge surge in visitors to Murree, the advisory said.
The district administration and traffic police have been put on alert for the smooth running of traffic and safety measures.
The police officers and traffic police have been deployed at major roads, entry points and key intersections of the city to help the tourists and to manage traffic in the city, said District Police Officer (DPO) Murree.
The purpose of the deployment is to help reduce traffic and direct visitors during the peak travel time.
The DPO said that the monsoon rains and fog have lowered the visibility at a number of places and vehicles have been forced to drive more slowly.
