In a major step toward improving public transportation and promoting sustainable travel, the Punjab government has officially launched the eco-friendly Green Electric Metro Bus Service in Murree on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The new service aims to provide tourists and residents with a safe, affordable and comfortable travel option while helping reduce traffic congestion and environmental pollution in the popular hill station.

According to the government’s announcement, the fare for the new electric bus service has been set at just Rs 30 per trip. Travel will be completely free for women, children under the age of five, and senior citizens. Officials viewed that initiative as a significant step toward providing relief to the public while modernising Murree’s public transportation system.
According to the administration, the electric bus service will operate seven days a week, from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm Buses will arrive at each designated stop every 45 minutes, ensuring that passengers do not have to wait long.
The modern electric bus service connects key areas along the Murree Expressway and GT Road. The journey begins from Seven Mile and continues to Murree Bus Stand. Along the route, the buses will stop at 20 designated stops, including Phulgran, Solgathan, Manga, Samli, Bastal Mor, Upper Samli, Khajot Ziarat, TDCP Hotel, Lakot, Awan, Malach, Masyari, Alocha Mor, Bada Hotel Signboard, Lower Topa, New Murree Road, Upper Topa, and Jheka Gali, allowing passengers to travel conveniently between different locations.
According to the district administration, the project will help address the long-standing issue of traffic congestion in Murree. Tourists will be able to park their vehicles at Seven Mile, Lower Topa, or other suitable locations and travel to Mall Road and other tourist attractions for a fare of just Rs 30. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce the number of vehicles entering the city and ease traffic pressure.
Officials said that all electric buses are equipped with modern air-conditioning facilities and operate on eco-friendly technology. The service will not only reduce fuel consumption but also help protect Murree’s natural environment by lowering pollution levels.
Tourism and transport experts believe that if the project proves successful, it could improve travel facilities in Murree and pave the way for similar electric bus services in other tourist destinations. The government expects the initiative to provide affordable, safe, and environmentally friendly transportation while contributing positively to the promotion of tourism.
