The Punjab government has approved a scheme to provide 5,000 laptops to students in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The provincial cabinet granted approval for the devices to be distributed among students on the basis of merit, academic performance and institutional needs.
The laptops will be distributed to students enrolled in public-sector educational institutions across Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The Punjab government will obtain relevant student data directly from the educational institutions before handing over laptops.

Further, officials from the Punjab government and the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government are expected to jointly finalize the procedural details for the distribution of the laptops. This coordination is intended to ensure the devices are delivered efficiently to eligible students.
The scheme follows the Punjab government’s commitment to improving educational access across areas where digital infrastructure has lagged. Officials have not yet announced a specific timeline for the process. However, further details are expected once both governments complete the necessary procedural arrangements.
On the other hand, previously, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat shared encouraging news for students regarding the Chief Minister’s Laptop Scheme. While addressing university students, he announced that the first batch of laptops under Phase 2 of the scheme has officially arrived in Punjab.
The minister confirmed that initially 30,000 laptops have been received in the province for the second phase of the scheme.
