Punjab Govt announces latest progress on Chief Minister Laptop Scheme

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has shared encouraging news for students regarding the Chief Minister’s Laptop Scheme. While addressing university students, he announced that the first batch of laptops under Phase 2 of the scheme has officially arrived in Punjab.

The initiative aims to support students by providing access to modern technology and strengthening digital learning across the province.

The minister confirmed that initially 30,000 laptops have been received in the province for the second phase of the scheme.

He further stated that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has formally approved the distribution of more than 70,000 laptops among talented students across the province during the current year, to equip the youth with modern technology.

This important announcement comes after the Punjab government allocated a record Rs 750 billion for the education sector in the budget for the fiscal year 2026–27.

This substantial investment in the education budget will be used to improve the infrastructure of schools, colleges, and universities, promote digital learning, and provide financial assistance to deserving students.

Of this amount, Rs 600.78 billion has been allocated for recurring expenditures for schools, and Rs 13.18 billion for development projects. Out of the total, Rs 570.52 billion will be provided to District Education Authorities and government schools in the form of grants and subsidies.

For the higher education sector, Rs 83.48 billion has been allocated for recurring expenditures, while Rs 11.15 billion has been set aside for development projects. In addition, Rs 68.72 billion has been allocated for salaries and other employee-related expenses.
