The Sindh government has declared Friday, August 14, 2026, a public holiday across the province. The holiday will be celebrated to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day.
As per the official notification, government and semi-government offices will remain closed on the holiday. Regular office work will not take place.
The holiday will also apply to offices of corporations and local councils across Sindh. Their routine activities will remain suspended for the day.
The government said the holiday is meant to allow people to observe the national day. However, offices and institutions that provide essential public services will continue to work. This is so that people can get the services they need.
Sindh announces holiday on August 4
The School Education and Literacy Department previously announced a holiday for all public and private schools across Sindh on August 4. The holiday was observed on the occasion of Chehlum of Imam Hussain.
The department also issued an official notification about the closure. The College Education Department announced the same holiday for public and private colleges across the province. Colleges also remained closed on Tuesday, August 4.
Earlier, the Sindh government had announced a public holiday across the province on Wednesday, July 29.
The holiday was announced to mark the annual Urs of renowned Sufi poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (RA).
Has Sindh restored weekly Saturday holiday?
The Sindh government has restored the weekly Saturday holiday for all public and private schools across the province.
According to the revised policy, school hours will be extended by one hour. This will be done to make sure academic activities continue without disruption despite the five-day school week.
Before this, the Sindh government also ended the weekly Saturday holiday in public and private schools.
According to the School Education and Literacy Department, schools under its control were to remain open from Monday to Saturday until further notice.
