AJK announces extension of summer holidays by four days

The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has extended the summer holidays for educational institutions by four more days on Monday.

Is summer vacation 2026 being extended?

According to a notification by the Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education, summer institutions across AJK will remain closed for four more days.

The extended holidays will start on Monday, August 10, 2026. They will continue until Thursday, August 13, 2026.

The decision is for both government and private summer educational institutions. The Education Department will issue further instructions about when classes will start again.

Schools may remain closed even after August 13. This is because Friday, August 14, is a public holiday for Independence Day.

Saturday and Sunday will follow as regular weekend holidays. This means educational institutions may remain closed until August 17.

Holiday on August 14

The Punjab government has announced a public holiday across the province on Friday, August 14, 2026, to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day.

According to a notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department today, government offices and most public institutions will remain closed on the holiday. Regular office work will also remain suspended.

Before this, the Sindh government had announced Friday, August 14, 2026, as a public holiday across the province to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day.

Are Punjab school summer vacations being extended?

There are several speculations circulating about whether summer vacations in Punjab schools will be extended until August 31 because of the ongoing monsoon rains.

As the scheduled end of the summer break is getting closer, government and private schools across the province are preparing to welcome students back.

However, persistent monsoon rainfall has sparked rumours that the holidays could be extended. Many students and parents are also asking whether the schools will reopen on September 1 instead.

Under the current schedule, summer vacations in Punjab will end on August 23, 2026, with schools expected to reopen on August 24.

According to sources, there is no confirmation if the summer holidays will extend beyond August 23.
