Apple has rolled out the fifth developer beta of iOS 27, bringing a fresh set of changes as the company prepares for the software’s expected public release next month.
The latest update continues Apple’s work on its Liquid Glass design, while adding several small but useful improvements across the iPhone.
Some built-in app icons have received a new look. Safari, Siri, Settings, Remote, App Store and Preview now feature updated Liquid Glass designs. While some icons have been redesigned, others have been given extra detail.
Siri is also gaining more voice controls. Users can adjust the pace and expressivity of Siri’s voice across all seven American voices and four British voices. However, the AI-powered voice customisation runs on the device, so it is limited to the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air.
The Contacts app has received a practical change. When a contact is linked to a company, the company name will now appear below the person’s name in the contact list and search results. This means users can get more context without opening the full contact card.
Apple has also expanded the Wallet app’s Create a Pass feature beyond the US. New splash screens have been added to Photos, Wallet and Music to highlight changes introduced with iOS 27.
Search has received a few interface tweaks as well. Search and Ask suggestions now appear alongside the search bar instead of appearing slightly later. A new “Search the Web” option also appears at the bottom of search results.
Users will have more control over app results in Search. They can choose to hide app results or display four or eight apps. A separate option allows app shortcuts to be shown.
There are smaller changes across the system too. The About section now shows when the latest software update was installed, while the Clock app has a thicker font for its Alarms and Timers sections.
The Mail app now includes a setting for Smart Replies, which is switched off by default. The Battery settings can also warn users when a weak mobile signal is contributing to faster battery drain.
The Control Centre has another small change. When an iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi, it no longer displays cellular connection details.
With the launch now approaching, Apple is expected to continue refining iOS 27 through further beta releases before the final version reaches users.
