The Punjab Finance Department has released a Rs14 billion budget for the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF), paving the way for the payment of pending salaries to teachers associated with the foundation.
According to sources, the released funds include an allocation for the salaries of PEF teachers. Following the release of the budget, teachers are expected to receive their outstanding salaries.
After the funds were released by the Finance Department, the relevant authorities began preparations to move forward with the salary disbursement process.
PEF-affiliated teachers had been waiting for their salaries for a considerable period. The release of the Rs14 billion budget is expected to provide financial relief to teachers facing difficulties due to delayed payments.
Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz announced a new salary schedule for all workers under the “Suthra Punjab” programme.
Suthra Punjab is Punjab’s flagship sanitation and waste-management program for cleaner neighbourhoods, stronger public service, and province-wide cleanliness. It serves districts and tehsils through a large sanitation workforce, service fleet, complaint-response channel, and engineered disposal network.
In a meeting, the chief minister ordered strict action over delays in salary payments and directed that contractors’ outstanding dues also be cleared at the earliest.
CM Maryam also sought monthly reports from the relevant companies regarding salary payments.
Now, the salary of the employees will be paid by the 5th of every month.
Additionally, the CM stressed the need to improve the sanitation system across the province, protect workers’ rights and make the field monitoring system more effective.
She directed that the use of uniform dustbins and garbage bags be ensured in all markets and commercial areas, while specific timings should be set for waste collection from commercial centres.
She further ordered that road and highway washing and cleaning operations begin daily at 5am.
