Porsche is reportedly planning to stop making its Taycan electric car by 2030. According to German business magazine Wirtschaftswoche, Porsche is considering a gradual end to Taycan production.
Is Porsche’s Taycan production ending?
Porsche had reportedly considered moving Taycan production from its Stuttgart factory to Leipzig. The Leipzig plant has been operating below its expected capacity.
Another option was to stop making the Taycan immediately. However, Porsche is now said to be considering a gradual phase-out over the next few years.
The plan has reportedly been discussed with Porsche’s works council. However, it has not yet been officially confirmed.
The Taycan is expected to continue being made at the Stuttgart plant until production ends.

Porsche remains cautious about Taycan’s future
Porsche CEO Michael Leiters recently gave a cautious response when asked about the Taycan, according to reports.
In a July interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, he said the company was not planning to stop the model in the short term.
He said that Porsche had invested heavily in the Taycan and wanted to see how customer demand develops.
Porsche has not commented on the reported plan to end Taycan production by 2030. The Taycan was launched in 2019 as Porsche’s first fully electric model.
In 2022, the company said it wanted electric cars to make up 80 per cent of its sales by 2030, according to the reports.
However, sales of the Taycan have fallen in recent years. Porsche delivered 40,960 Taycans in 2023. The number dropped to 16,339 in 2025. The company sold 6,219 units in the first half of 2026.
Production of the Taycan has also been stopped several times due to weak demand, reports say.
Will Porsche continue electric sports cars?
Ending the Taycan may not mean Porsche is leaving the electric performance car market.
The company could introduce a new electric model under the Panamera name. This could be similar to the strategy used for the Macan and Cayenne.
Porsche already makes the electric Macan and Panamera at its Leipzig plant. The factory can produce petrol, hybrid and electric cars on the same production line.
