YouTube interface of users on both mobile and web versions frequently undergoes changes. The purpose behind these constant experiments with the user interface has often remained unclear, especially since some changes are made permanent while others are eventually reversed.
Recently, the company explained why these frequent updates are made. YouTube Vice President Jonathan Trelesky addressed the issue in a blog post, stating that the reason behind these constant changes is to make the video-sharing platform easier to use. He further explained that YouTube does not want its user interface to feel disorganised.
Similarly, the recent changes in YouTube, such as the redesign of certain buttons, were aimed at making them more prominent and visible to users. According to the company, this design approach is also being extended to larger screens, including smart TVs.
On the other hand, previously, it was revealed that YouTube is launching new rules for its eligibility criteria for creators who want to join its Partner Program to get ads and YouTube Premium revenue.
The new rules will go into effect on February 1st, 2027, and will only be for creators who opt to join the program after that date.
New requirements call for creators to qualify for ad and Premium revenue with either 8,000 watch hours in the past 12 months or 20 million Shorts views in the past 90 days.
The new eligibility thresholds will not impact existing YouTube Partner Program members.
