The external security cordon outside the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has been removed.

According to Indian media reports, authorities also removed the barriers outside the Pakistani High Commission, including security bollards installed to regulate traffic around the mission.

The report said the enclosure outside the Pakistani visa section was also dismantled. Indian authorities have not provided a reason for removing the additional security arrangements.

The development comes a day after Pakistan protested remarks by the US ambassador to India regarding Jammu and Kashmir.

The Foreign Office handed a protest note to the US chargé d’affaires over the controversial remarks by Sergio Gor, conveying Pakistan’s concerns and describing the US envoy’s statement as contrary to facts.

According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan rejected and strongly condemned the US ambassador’s remarks concerning the legal status of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognised disputed territory whose final status remains to be determined. The spokesperson added that public statements by the US government should reflect the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan maintains that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
