A high-level defence delegation from the Republic of Congo met with the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Friday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The delegation was led by Congo’s Chief of Defence, Lieutenant General Banza Mwilambo Jules.
The visiting delegation was given a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of Pakistan’s three armed forces.
During the meeting, both sides discussed matters of mutual interest, the regional security situation and ways to strengthen defence and security cooperation between Pakistan and the Republic of Congo.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over the friendly relations between the two countries. They also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand and strengthen defence and security cooperation.
The two sides agreed to explore new areas of cooperation and benefit from each other’s experience in defence and security.
Lieutenant General Banza Mwilambo Jules praised the professionalism and operational capabilities of Pakistan’s armed forces.
He also appreciated Pakistan’s progress in local defence production, self-reliance and modern defence capabilities.
Earlier, the Congolese defence chief also met Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu separately.
The meetings focused on defence cooperation, professional ties, regional security and matters of mutual interest.
The visit is being seen as an important step towards strengthening defence ties between Pakistan and the Republic of Congo.
