Suzuki has officially unveiled its first all-electric kei car, the E Sky, in Japan, with the compact EV expected to arrive in the UK in 2027.
The new Suzuki E Sky is scheduled to go on sale in Japan this autumn and is expected to carry a sub-£20,000 price tag when it reaches the UK, putting it in competition with models such as the Honda Super-N and Renault Twingo.
Designed to comply with Japan’s strict kei car regulations, the E Sky retains much of the styling of the concept unveiled at last year’s Tokyo Mobility Show. The compact EV measures 3,395mm long and 1,475mm wide, making it significantly smaller than the Renault Twingo.
Despite its small footprint, the E Sky features a tall, boxy design aimed at maximising cabin space. Suzuki says the vehicle will be able to accommodate four passengers.
Suzuki has yet to reveal the full technical specifications. However, under Japan’s kei car regulations, the E Sky will be limited to 63bhp, with power expected to come from a front-mounted electric motor.
Japanese media reports suggest the E Sky could feature a 26kWh battery with a claimed range of up to 193 miles on a single charge. If confirmed, that would give it a longer range than the Renault Twingo and Honda Super-N. DC fast charging is reportedly expected to be limited to 50kW, with a 10-80% charge potentially taking less than 30 minutes.
Although the E Sky fully meets Japan’s kei car requirements, Suzuki has not yet confirmed whether the model will receive modifications for international markets.
The UK-spec Honda Super-N, for example, features a more powerful 93bhp motor and a sportier body compared with its Japanese-market N-One e, taking it beyond Japan’s kei car regulations.
Suzuki is expected to launch the E Sky in the UK in 2027, although exact launch details and pricing are yet to be confirmed. If priced below £20,000, the model could become a strong contender in the growing electric A-segment.
The E Sky is part of Suzuki’s plans to introduce three new electric vehicles in Europe by 2030 as the company looks to strengthen its EV lineup. Suzuki’s current European EV offering includes the e Vitara, which launched in 2025 and shares its platform with the Toyota Urban Cruiser.
