The Sindh Education Department has expanded its digital student attendance and monitoring system to 3,481 government schools. The initiative is part of reforms aimed at modernising education across the province.
The programme was launched on the directions of Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah.
Every student will have a digital educational profile. The profile will contain important information, including the student’s attendance, examination records and academic performance.
According to the Education Department, 3,481 government schools joined the digital system by August 10. The government plans to bring all government schools in Sindh under the system by April 2027.
Parents to receive alerts about student absences
The Sindh Cabinet approved the digital attendance policy in March 2026.
The system will allow education authorities to monitor students’ daily attendance. It will also identify children who remain absent from school for longer periods.
Officials hope this will help schools identify students who may be at risk of dropping out and allow action to be taken at an earlier stage.
Each student will receive a Student ID and QR code.
Parents will also receive SMS alerts if their child remains absent for an extended period.
Facial recognition and attendance
The digital platform includes facial recognition technology and geofenced attendance to improve monitoring.
An offline attendance option has also been introduced. This feature is designed for government schools located in areas where internet connectivity is poor.
In the future, the platform is expected to be connected with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
Facial recognition attendance system previously launched in six districts
Previously, the Sindh government announced the launch of the Facial Recognition Attendance Monitoring and Evaluation System (FRAMES) in government schools across six districts.
The Sindh School Education Department had completed all preparations for the programme. For the first phase, one district from each division was selected.
Staff attendance was monitored through facial recognition technology using a digital mobile application.
The six districts selected for the first phase were Karachi East, Hyderabad, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Ghotki and Umerkot.
Provincial Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah said the programme was initially being introduced in these six districts as a trial. Further, the government planned to expand the system to all districts of Sindh.
