PM Shehbaz Says PIA Privatisation Bidding Will Be Broadcast Live

Web desk: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed that transparency and merit remain the top priorities in the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). He also announced that the PIA bidding process will be broadcast live on television across the country.

All business figures and representatives of companies participating in the privatisation process met with the Prime Minister today at the Prime Minister’s House.

The Prime Minister said the privatisation process was progressing smoothly, intending to restore PIA’s lost identity and align the national flag carrier with contemporary global aviation standards.

He expressed confidence that, “InshaAllah, soon PIA will once again start living up to its traditions of ‘Great People to Fly With’.”

PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasised that the government was ensuring full transparency and merit throughout the process.

He reiterated that the nationwide live telecast of the bidding would reflect the government’s commitment to openness.

He added that the resumption of PIA’s global operations would greatly facilitate overseas Pakistanis and contribute to strengthening the aviation sector.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of aligning the national airline with modern requirements to support the growth of Pakistan’s tourism industry.

Addressing the bidders, the Prime Minister expressed hope that whoever takes on responsibility after the bidding will dedicate their full efforts to restoring the airline’s image and ensuring its future development.

The bidding for PIA’s privatisation will be held on December 23, 2025, and will be broadcast live on all media platforms.

The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s House. It was attended by federal ministers Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Attaullah Tarar, and Azam Nazeer Tarar.

Additionally, Sardar Owais Leghari, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, Adviser to PM Muhammad Ali, SAPM Haroon Akhtar and senior officials were also there.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of all bidding entities.
