Traffic authorities have issued an alert for possible traffic disruptions in Rawalpindi on Friday, September 4, as the Pakistan Sunni Tehreek is expected to hold a protest near the Press Club and Liaquat Bagh.
The protest is expected to begin at around 3:30pm, with the gathering planned outside the Press Club in the Liaquat Bagh area.
Rawalpindi roads likely to be affected
According to the traffic alert, congestion and movement restrictions may affect several key roads surrounding the protest venue, including:
- Liaquat Road
- Murree Road
- Press Club Road
- Roads surrounding Liaquat Bagh and the Press Club
Traffic congestion is expected to increase around the protest site, while adjoining routes may also experience delays depending on the size and duration of the gathering.
Traffic plan and travel advisory
Citizens travelling through the affected areas have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and avoid the protest location during the expected protest hours where possible.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays and allow additional travel time, particularly during the afternoon and evening.
Traffic police and local authorities may introduce temporary diversions or road closures depending on the situation.
Citizens have also been advised to follow instructions issued by traffic police and remain alert for any changes to the traffic plan.
The public is encouraged to check traffic updates before travelling through Murree Road, Liaquat Road and areas around Liaquat Bagh today.
On the other hand, power load shedding in Rawalpindi exceeded seven hours, while unannounced outages have also begun affecting several cities and rural areas across the country.
Residents of Rawalpindi have expressed strong frustration over frequent power cuts. Students are particularly affected, with electricity reportedly remaining unavailable for around three hours at night in urban areas and up to five hours in surrounding localities.
The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has issued an explanation regarding the prolonged outages. According to its spokesperson, IESCO is working to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to more than 4.2 million consumers across its six operational circles.
The spokesperson said load shedding is being carried out during evening peak hours because the system load increases and the required electricity quota is not available from the National Grid according to demand.
