Man arrested in US not a Pakistani national, FO

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office has clarified that the man arrested in US on terrorism charges is not a Pakistani national but an Afghan citizen.

US media reported that Luqman Khan, a Pakistani national, was arrested on November 24 when police found him inside a New Castle, Delaware park after hours.

According to the FO, Khan is accused of planning an attack inside the United States. American authorities also seized weapons and explosives from his home and vehicle.

The Foreign Office said some media outlets wrongly reported him as a Pakistani citizen, which was baseless and contrary to facts. The spokesperson urged the media not to run any news without proper verification.

According to the spokesperson, Luqman Khan holds dual US and Afghan citizenship and has spent most of his life in the United States.

It was further revealed that he had also spent some time in an Afghan refugee camp.

The Foreign Office reiterated that Pakistan has no link to the case, which is strictly a matter between the US authorities and the Afghan-origin suspect.

According to federal officials and court records, Delaware police discovered that Khan was carrying an illegal machine gun and a notebook outlining ideas for “urban warfare,” “martyrdom,” and at least one specific target.
