UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband has accused Israel of deliberately targeting civilians and hospitals in Gaza, saying there is evidence that war crimes have been committed in the territory.
Speaking about the situation in Gaza, Miliband said civilians had been deliberately targeted and hospitals had also come under attack.
He said Britain would provide continued humanitarian support to the people of Gaza and would work to ensure they receive the assistance they need.
Miliband also said the UK recognises the rulings issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding Gaza and accepts its obligations under international law.
The British foreign secretary said around 1,200 Palestinians had been killed in Gaza despite the ceasefire.
“There is evidence that war crimes have been committed in Gaza,” Miliband said, referring to alleged violations of international humanitarian law during the conflict.
Miliband also announced that Britain would impose a ban on Israeli settlements, marking a tougher position from London over Israel’s settlement policy in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The remarks come amid continued international scrutiny of Israel’s military actions in Gaza and growing calls for greater humanitarian assistance for Palestinians.
