The Embassy of Switzerland has announced Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for the academic year 2027–28 for students and researchers.
Pakistani students and researchers can apply for the scholarship to avail themselves of the opportunity to pursue higher education abroad.
What are the scholarship categories?
The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for the academic year 2027–28 will be available in two categories.
The first one is a one-year research scholarship for doctoral candidates. This is for students who want to pursue research in Switzerland.
The second one is a three-year PhD scholarship. This will be offered to candidates who want to pursue a PhD in Switzerland.

If you are interested, you can apply simply by submitting your application online through the Swiss government’s official portal.

When is the application deadline?
The last date to submit the application is October 31, 2026.
If you submit the application after the last date, it may not be considered.
In addition to this, candidates have been advised to carefully review the scholarship requirements and application instructions before they apply.
HEC scholarships
The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) has also advertised the opportunity.
In its post, the HEC mentioned that all applications should be directed to the respective university.
Additionally, HEC will not be financially liable for this scholarship in any case.

US scholarships for Pakistani students
Previously, the government announced a major scholarship programme for talented Pakistani students who want to study at top universities in the United States (US).
Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui recently visited the US.
During his visit, he met senior officials from leading universities including MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia and Georgetown.
For this programme, the government has decided to allocate Rs1.5 billion under the “Pakistan Fund for Education”.
