The Airline Operators Committee (AOC) has asked authorities to extend the deadline for making digital vaccination cards mandatory for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.
Eariler, Government to replace manual vaccination cards with digital records linked to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
In a letter sent to the Health Officer at Karachi Airport, the AOC requested more time before existing manual vaccination cards become invalid.
The committee said it was aware of the government’s new instructions. It also assured authorities that travel agents would inform passengers about the digital vaccination card requirement.
However, the AOC believes more time and facilities are needed to make the transition easier for passengers.
AOC seeks deadline until October 1
The committee has proposed setting up vaccination centres at several important locations across Karachi. It specifically suggested establishing facilities near NADRA offices so that passengers can obtain the required vaccination records more easily.
The AOC also raised concerns about possible overcrowding at the airport. It said many international passengers do not arrive several hours before their flights. Large numbers of travellers need vaccination services at the airport could result in long queues and congestion.
According to the AOC, the current September 16 deadline does not provide enough time for everyone to meet the new requirement. It has therefore requested that the deadline be extended until October 1.
NADRA vaccination certificate mandatory for International travellers from September 14
International passengers travelling abroad from Pakistan will be required to carry a valid NADRA vaccination certificate from September 14, 2026.
According to new instructions issued by the Airport Health Department, passengers without the required vaccination certificate may not be allowed to travel internationally.
Umrah pilgrims have specially been advised to obtain their NADRA vaccination cards before reaching the airport for departure. Airlines have also been instructed to check the vaccination certificates of Umrah passengers before allowing them to board their flights.
Passengers have also been advised to obtain their certificates from authorised vaccination centres. Vaccination and online registration facilities are expected to be available at international departure areas as well.
Travellers who need to receive a vaccination at the airport have been advised to arrive at least six hours before their scheduled flight.
