A breach in a bridge structure along the Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) in Paharpur tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan has triggered flooding in nearby settlements, forcing residents to leave their homes.
Pakistan Army personnel and teams from the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) have reached the affected areas to assist with rescue and relief operations.
The evacuation of residents is underway, with TMA tractors and rescue teams helping move families to safer locations. Local residents are also assisting one another as floodwater spreads through affected communities.
The situation has raised concerns among local communities, who have criticised the provincial government’s response and called for greater attention to the flooding in Dera Ismail Khan.
The criticism comes as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Sohail Afridi has been taking part in political activities in Punjab linked to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
PTI supporters have been attempting to mobilise people for street protests inPunjab.
However, the gatherings have reportedly attracted far fewer people than the large crowds claimed by party supporters.
A separate controversy has also emerged after Sohail Afridi was reportedly denied fuel at a petrol station in Punjab.
Some PTI supporters have called for a boycott of the station on social media, while allegations of threats against its owners have also emerged.
The political developments have drawn criticism, with opponents arguing that the CM Sohail Afridi should focus on the flooding and relief efforts in his province rather than political activities outside it.
PTI and its supporters have continued to defend their political campaign, while the flooding in Dera Ismail Khan remains a pressing concern for affected residents.
