American rapper Macklemore has been removed from Ed Sheeran’s US tour. The decision follows his recent pro-Palestinian comments on stage. The rapper was scheduled to perform as an opening act on Sheeran’s Loop Tour. He was expected to appear at eight of the remaining ten US shows. The controversy began during Macklemore’s performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. He spoke openly about his support for Palestinians during the show. Macklemore also performed his 2024 protest song, “Hind’s Hall.” The song was released during pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the United States. His comments received both support and criticism. Why Macklemore was removed
Tour promoter Messina Touring Group confirmed that Macklemore would not perform at the remaining shows. The promoter said several venues would not allow concerts with him on the lineup. It warned that the tour could face cancellations without a change. The decision followed discussions between the promoter and other stakeholders. Macklemore was then removed from the remaining support dates. The rapper later shared his response on Instagram. He said he had several difficult conversations with Sheeran. Macklemore also claimed that Robert Kraft played a role in the decision. Kraft owns Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts.
According to Macklemore, Kraft contacted Sheeran over his comments. He also claimed Kraft encouraged other stadium owners to oppose his participation. Kraft later defended the decision. He said he believes his actions were necessary because of concerns about antisemitism.
Macklemore stands by his comments
Despite losing his tour position, Macklemore said he does not regret his statements. He argued that criticism of Israel should not automatically be treated as antisemitism. He also said antisemitism remains a serious issue. The rapper has supported Palestinian causes publicly for several years. His song “Hind’s Hall” became part of that activism. Ed Sheeran has not publicly given a detailed response to the dispute. The tour is scheduled to continue without Macklemore. The remaining US dates are expected to continue from September 19 in Philadelphia. Macklemore was originally scheduled to perform at several of those shows.
