A man pretending to be a doctor was arrested from the emergency labour room of General Hospital in Lahore on Friday.
According to the hospital administration, a gynaecologist reported the matter to the duty DMS and the local police.
The doctor said the man was posing as a doctor and examining women in the emergency labour room. She asked the authorities to take legal action against him.
Police arrest suspect
Police acted on the complaint and arrested the man from the hospital.
The suspect was identified as Hassan Ijaz. He told authorities that he lived in Shalimar Town. However, police found that he was actually a resident of Kahna.
The man was caught after the duty DMS questioned him. He became nervous during the questioning, which raised suspicion.
A case has been registered against him at Kot Lakhpat Police Station.
Suspect allegedly misled patients
According to the FIR, Hassan Ijaz had been meeting patients and their families while pretending to be a doctor.
The FIR stated that he interacted with people at the hospital and misled them about his identity.
Fake doctor arrested from PIMS
Previously, police arrested a man who was allegedly working as a doctor at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad despite having no medical qualification.
Officials said the man was working at the hospital at night. He was reportedly stitching wounds and giving medicines to patients.
The man was identified as Fida Hussain. Police caught him late on Tuesday night while he was working in the plastic surgery department.
PIMS Executive Director Dr Raja Amjad Mahmood said Hussain was arrested and handed over to Karachi Company Police. A case was registered against him for allegedly impersonating a doctor and cheating.
Untrained male staff found conducting postmortems on female dead bodies
Previously, untrained male staff were reportedly conducting postmortems of women in the hospital’s morgue in Lahore General Hospital.
According to sources, untrained male staff are performing postmortems of women in the hospital’s morgue.
Media footage shows untrained workers carrying out postmortems without a doctor present.
In the video, a helper is seen conducting the postmortem of a woman, while another person, who is not a doctor or hospital employee, is stitching the body.
These actions are both illegal, severely unethical and medically unauthorised.
Man claims doctors paid him
During questioning, Hussain told police that two doctors at PIMS had hired him to work for them during night shifts.
Officials said Hussain had no official connection with the hospital. He had allegedly been working there for several months.
According to officials, the two post-graduate students in the plastic surgery department were paying him between Rs400 and Rs500 for each night shift.
The two students have now been suspended from their training for six months. An inquiry has also been ordered into the matter.
