The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Tuesday changed the petrol and diesel prices, with the new rates taking effect from Wednesday, September 23.
What are the petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan today?
The price of petrol was reduced by Rs1.70, and the price of diesel was decreased by Rs3.12. A notification has been issued in this regard as well.
The price of petrol has been set at Rs392.5 per litre, and the price of diesel has been set at Rs418.96 per litre. These prices have been changed for the next 24 hours.
Before this, the price of petrol had been decreased by Rs1.65 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel had been reduced by Rs0.88 per litre. The new prices of petroleum products came into effect from September 19, 2026.
Previously, the price of petrol was increased by Rs 12.90 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel was increased by Rs 3.72 per litre.
The new price of petrol had been fixed at Rs 358.77 per litre. Similarly, the new price of diesel had been fixed at Rs 381.77 per litre.
Government considers abolishing petroleum levy
The government has proposed ending the petroleum levy for one year as Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) continues its “Super Long March” towards Islamabad, according to sources.
The proposal comes as the JI march moves from Rohri towards Multan. Government representatives have again contacted JI leaders and asked them to call off or delay the march.
However, JI has said that its protest will continue until the petroleum levy is fully removed. The party has been protesting against the levy for several weeks. It has also made its removal a main demand of the march.
According to sources, the government has now offered to suspend the petroleum levy for one year. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also expected to contact JI leaders soon.
