Google is expanding its hardware portfolio with a new premium laptop lineup called Google Book, moving beyond its traditional focus on Android and ChromeOS.
The new Google Book range is set to launch in the United States on October 4, with five models planned for the initial lineup. The laptops feature a refreshed Material 3 Expressive interface and integrate Google’s Gemini AI directly into the operating system rather than offering it solely as a separate application.
The Google Book desktop interface has a design similar to Google’s Pixel smartphones. Quick Settings and notifications are positioned in the top-right corner, while the time and date appear on the left. A central dock includes the familiar “G” app drawer icon.
Google is also focusing on connectivity between its laptops and Android smartphones. After signing in, a Google Book can automatically transfer settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks and messages from a user’s Android phone. Features such as Android 17’s “Continue” and Cast My Apps make it easier to access and use applications across devices without necessarily installing them on the laptop.
Gemini Intelligence is also integrated into the system. Users can activate the assistant using a dedicated pointer and a simple wiggle gesture, allowing them to perform tasks such as adding dates directly to their calendars.
For developers, Google has introduced a native Antigravity app that provides access to a full Linux environment. Developers can also install tools such as Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex directly on the devices.
A Level 5 security-certified hypervisor protects the Linux environment with pKVM isolation, providing sandboxed access while still letting users work in a full terminal.
