A delegation of the US Afghanistan War Commission met with the Chief of Defence Forces and the Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Monday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The delegation was led by Co-Chairs Shamila N. Chaudhary and Dr Colin F. Jackson. The group is reviewing the United States’ 20-year involvement in Afghanistan.
What was discussed?
The meeting focused on issues related to Pakistan and Afghanistan. The officials discussed Pakistan’s role during the conflict and the security situation in the region.
They also discussed recent developments in Afghanistan. The delegation sought Pakistan’s views as part of its review.
Field Marshal Asim Munir shared Pakistan’s perspective on the conflict. He spoke about the security challenges Pakistan faced during the long war in Afghanistan.
He also stressed the need to include the regional perspective when reviewing the conflict. He said Pakistan’s experience should be considered when looking at the strategic and security aspects of the war.
US delegation acknowledges Pakistan’s role
The delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s role and sacrifices during the Afghanistan conflict.
It also appreciated Pakistan’s continued efforts to support peace and stability in the region.
‘Indian-backed Fitna al-Khawarij sent to hell’
Security forces killed 33 Indian sponsored terrorists in counter-terrorism operations in Balochistan since September 21, according to the ISPR on Friday.
The military’s media wing said that the operations were carried out against Indian-backed Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan.
On September 24, security forces continued Operation Shaban in Balochistan. According to ISPR, troops raided several terrorist hideouts. An intense exchange of fire took place during the operation.
Five Indian-sponsored terrorists were killed as a result. Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from their locations.
ISPR said that the clearance operation would continue until the threat in the area was fully removed.
