The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced a free biometric data update service for citizens in the country and overseas Pakistanis.
The service allows people to update their fingerprints, photograph and iris scan without paying a fee, according to NADRA.
The authority said keeping biometric records up to date could help reduce the risk of identity theft and fraud, while also addressing problems that can arise during biometric verification.
Such verification is required for a range of services, including banking transactions, obtaining mobile SIM cards and securing “Proof of Life” certificates.
NADRA has advised parents of children aged between three and 18 who do not have a Form-B containing a photograph to have their biometric information updated.
People holding National Identity Cards with lifetime validity can also use the free service, the authority said.
Citizens can update their biometric information by visiting a nearby NADRA office, a NADRA counter at a Union Council or a mobile registration van.
NADRA has also introduced a “family token” system at its centres to make visits easier for families.
Under the system, families visiting a registration centre do not need to obtain a separate token for every member. A single family token can be used, allowing members to access the required services together at a one-window counter when their turn arrives.
The authority said the arrangement was intended to reduce waiting times and the need for families to move between different counters.
NADRA said the initiative was part of efforts to simplify identity-related services and make them more accessible to citizens.
